Unless you live under a rock, you’ve heard about the latest Pokémon Go craze. Stories of distracted players have surfaced – it’s even been rumored that a couple of players accidently walked off a cliff in pursuit of a catch. Sadly that actually did happen – the rumor is true.
Clearly, the game is addictive to those who play. Players have flooded designated Pokéstops all over the country which has created opportunity for many businesses, restaurants – and now, colleges.
You’ve “gotta catch ‘em all” but you need to visit college campuses, too. What’s a student/player to do? We may have a solution for you.
In what can only be described as a valiant effort to play into student interests while promoting some serious multi-tasking, Washington State University (WSU) Tri-Cities developed a plan to take advantage of the recent phenomenon instead of fighting it.
The school has essentially created a Pokémon Go campus tour, which incorporates prospective student’s college visits with various stops noteworthy within the game. The tour includes the usual campus sites you’d see on any college tour, like main buildings, classrooms, lab facilities and student recreation spots. But, with a unique thematic addition, the special Pokémon tour routes will also feature the campus’ Pokéstops, Pokémon gyms and will event include extra time for students to hunt for characters in the game. Plus, the tour is given by a current WSU Tri-Cities student who also happens to be a fellow Pokémon aficionado.
It’s a simple-but-effective plan, seeing as WSU Tri-Cities already hosts more than 15 Pokéstops and two Pokémon gyms.
The hour-long tours take place Monday through Friday, with morning tours at 9 and 10 a.m. and 2 and 3 p.m. afternoon tours. Students can sign up to take the WSU Tri-Cities Pokémon Themed Campus Tour on their website.
