Students often want to attend colleges outside of their home state, however, with astronomical tuition costs, give up the idea and settle on a slightly less expensive in-state option.
In fact, according to a study by the College Board, the average tuition cost for undergraduates to attend a four-year public college for the 2014-2015 academic year was $22,958 - about two and a half times more than the average cost of in-state tuition.
There are, however, out-of-state schools, which offer affordable tuition for students looking to attend an out-of-state college.
BestColleges.com ranked the 50 colleges with the lowest out-of-state tuition. In order to come up with the rankings, the study analyzed 2013-2014 tuition rates at U.S. colleges and universities. The rankings only considered not-for-profit public and private schools with more than 900 students enrolled.
