Don't think it's possible to pay for college and continue to play the sport you love? Think again.
Athletic scholarships make it possible for student-athletes to pursue their academic and athletic dreams in college -- even if you plan to play on an intramural team instead of the college's official team.
Check out these scholarships for student athletes (and related to athletics) and get paid to play in college.
Hood Milk Sportsmanship Scholarship
Deadline: 3/11/16
Available to: High School Seniors through College Freshmen
Award Amount: 18 Awards of $5,000
The Hood Milk Sportsmanship Scholarship program rewards 18 deserving high school student athletes across New England with $5,000 toward furthering their education at a 2- or 4-year accredited college or university.
To be eligible, high school seniors must have proven their ability to put the spirit of competition above winning while participating in a varsity sport. These students must have also earned a cumulative 3.0 GPA or higher and performed volunteer work in the community.
Applicants are asked to write a short essay explaining how they display sportsmanship and integrity on and off the field. Each student who meets these standards and completes the essay will then participate in an online voting competition.
The 10 applicants, from each New England state, who have received the most votes will be interviewed by a select panel of judges. The panel of judges will then select three students from each of the six New England states (Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont) for a total of 18 scholarships.
Winners will be honored at an awards ceremony and inducted into the Hood Milk Sportsmanship Scholarship Hall of Fame at the TD Garden in Boston.
Applicants must enter online at Hood.com by 3 PM EDT on March 11, 2016. Voting will take place on Hood.com from April 1, 2016, at 9 AM EDT, through April 22, 2016, a 3PM EDT. Good luck!
