Top Winter Scholarships

Did you hear the news? The infamous groundhog, Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow on February 2, also known as Groundhog's Day. You know what that means: six more weeks of winter.

But, don't let the news of a longer winter get you down! Warm up and celebrate the snow with these winter-themed scholarships, instead.

Note: Many of these scholarships are school-specific, so you may not be eligible for any/all of the below scholarships. Those with passed deadlines will appear at the bottom of the list, just in case you want to keep an eye out to apply next year. To find a list of scholarships you are eligible for, we recommend that you check your scholarship matches frequently!

Jocelyn Botterell Staton Scholarship

Deadline: 2/15/16

Available to: Female College Freshmen through College Seniors

Award Amount: Varies

Winning a scholarship can be compared to landing a triple axel: it requires a lot of hard work, determination and patience.

The Jocelyn Botterell Staton scholarship is available to female students at the Georgia Institute of Technology.

First preference is given to students who have demonstrated achievement in figure skating.

Second preference is given to students who have participated in Georgia Tech's intercollegiate swimming program.

Third preference is given to students who have had success in amateur athletic competition. This award may be renewed with a maintained minimum 2.5 GPA.

Ruby Ashby Snowman Memorial Scholarship

Available to: College Freshmen through College Seniors

Award Amount: Varies

Have your corncob pipe and a button nose and two eyes made out of coal all set to go? Sorry to disappoint, but they won’t be necessary in order to apply for this particular scholarship. (You never know, they may come in handy for others!)

However, you can win this award by being a full-time student, and a resident of Maine who is majoring in education and attending the University of Maine at Presque Isle.

P.J. Ransley Memorial Scholarship

Deadline: 4/01/16

Available to: College Freshmen

Award Amount: $1,000
If skiing is your snow sport of choice, you’ve already got a heads up on the competition!
The P.J. Ransley Memorial Scholarship is available to graduating seniors at high schools in Dutchess County.

You must plan to major in business, participate in sports (especially sailing, skiing, and/or golf), other extracurricular activities and paid employment, and demonstrate financial need to be eligible for this award.

Father James B. Macelwane Annual Award

Deadline: 6/10/16

Available to: College Freshmen through College Seniors

Award Amount: $1,000

Are you the go-to guru for when the next snowstorm is going to hit? If most of your fast facts involve record inches of snow, sleet and rain, you’re likely looking at the right scholarship.

Sponsored by the American Meteorological Society, the Father James B. Macelwane Annual Award in Meteorology is available to undergraduate students who have an interest in meteorological science.

To be considered, you must submit a paper concerning an aspect of the atmospheric sciences.

Go Colorado Scholarship

Not only is the state of Colorado known for skiing and snowboarding on it's snow-covered slopes, but this scholarship is for the winter terms, too!

The Go Colorado Scholarship is open to students who are enrolled in online classes for the Winter A or B term who are residents of Colorado.

Thomas A. Macari Ice Hockey Scholarship

Take a break from cross-checking, roughing and slashing long enough to see that passing up this scholarship would be worse than any major penalty.

Don’t be a duster - this scholarship is a one-timer any ice hockey player can appreciate.

The Thomas A. Macari Ice Hockey Scholarship is open to hockey players at the University of Rhode Island.

Vince Aguirre Memorial Scholarship

Do you live for ski season? This scholarship is for students who anxiously await the arrival of snow – and love the sport of skiing.

The Vince Aguirre Memorial Scholarship is open to full-time students at Boise State University.

This scholarship is awarded on the basis of financial need and provides the cost of fees. To be considered for this award, you must have a minimum 3.0 GPA, be active in skiing or pursuing a career in the skiing industry and submit the FAFSA.

Winter Wildlife Intern – Wildcare Inc.

Can't get enough of penguins and polar bears (and all other non-winter themed wildlife)? Here's a winter internship that'll help you help them!

The Winter Wildlife Intern position is open to students who are interested in the care and treatment of injured and orphaned wildlife.

You must be able to work 10 hours per week during the fall and/or spring term to be eligible for this internship. This internship is unpaid.
