Giving your time to help those in need is noble. After all, everyone is busy with school, work, family and a social life. But, volunteers make it a priority to reach out and lend a hand - without asking for anything in return.
And, though volunteers don't ask for anything in return, it doesn't mean they can't get anything in return. In fact, by giving back to your community, you have the chance to put money toward you college education as well!
Since these individuals are so deserving, we thought it was important to showcase scholarship opportunities for students who are individuals that demonstrate the spirit of volunteering and community service.
Whatever type of volunteer work your passion falls under, there are scholarship providers that recognize and provide awards for those that give their time and efforts to those in need.

Respshop.com Scholarship
Deadline: 1/31/16
Available to: High School Senior through Graduate Students, Year 5
Award Amount: $1,500
The Respshop.com Scholarship is available to undergraduates, graduate students, and high school students who plan to attend college within the following seven months.
You must have a minimum 2.0 GPA and submit a 500-700 word essay about snoring, sleep apnea, sleep disorders, or CPAP therapy.
You may steer your essay in any direction you like, but you should relate sleep disorders or CPAP therapy to your personal life or to your community.

National FFA Collegiate Scholarship Program

Available to: College Freshmen through College Seniors

The National FFA Collegiate Scholarship Program is open to high school seniors and full-time college students.
You must be a current FFA member to be eligible for this award.
You will be judged on your academic record, extracurricular activities, volunteer community activities, work experience, a statement of career and educational goals, a counselor or advisor's evaluation, and your degree of financial need.

Alliant Energy Foundation Community Service Scholarship

Available To: College Freshmen
Amount: 25 Awards of $1,000
The Alliant Energy Foundation Community Service Scholarship is available to full - time, first - time freshmen students attending a college, university, or vocational - technical school in Iowa, Wisconsin, or Minnesota.
You must be 24 years of age or younger and be a current customer or the dependent child of a current customer of one of Alliant Energy's utility subsidiaries (Wisconsin Power and Light or Interstate Power and Light).
You must reside within the Alliant Energy service territory at the time of application.
Additionally, you must have a minimum 2.5 GPA and demonstrate leadership in community service and volunteer activities.
A 300-word essay is also required.

The Strong Roots Scholarship is available to students attending an accredited college or university.
You must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and demonstrate an interest in community building to qualify for this award.
Additionally, you must submit a 500-word essay that answers the following question: "How is the meaning of the word “community” changing in today’s world, and what does that mean for people who wish to build strong, healthy communities?"

Shaw-Worth Memorial Scholarship

Available to: Maximum Age 18 Years
Award Amount: $2,500
The Shaw-Worth Memorial Scholarship is open to New England high school seniors who have made meaningful contributions to the area of animal protection over a significant period of time.
Actions that merit the award may include: dedicated long term direct work on behalf of animals; inspiring leadership in animal protection organizations; papers, speeches, presentations on humane topics; or heroic rescues of animals in danger.

Salt and Light Award

Available to: Graduate Students, Year 1

The Salt and Light Award is available to students entering Ave Maria School of Law.
You must have two or more years of full-time work or volunteer experience in a church-supported ministry (e.g., a director of religious education; a missionary; service through FOCUS, ACE, JVC) to be eligible for this award.

Provided by the American Red Cross, the Navin Narayan Youth Scholarship is available to high school seniors planning to attend a four-year college or university.

The Gloria Barron Prize for Young Heroes is available to students age 18 and younger who have organized and led a service activity that has clearly benefited other people.
Your service activity must have been initiated and motivated primarily by you and cannot have been an assignment for school or work.
Additionally, you must demonstrate a positive spirit and high moral purpose.
To be considered, you must be nominated by an adult who has solid knowledge of your service activities and is not related to you.

East Villagers Service Scholar Essay and Art Contest

Available to:High School Freshmen to High School Seniors
Award Amount: $500
The East Villagers Service Scholar Essay and Art Contest is available to high school students in the U.S. and Canada who have completed at least five hours of community service.
You must respond to an essay prompt or submit a work of fine art, digital art, photography, or video that inspires service or captures an inspirational moment of service.

BloodCenter of Wisconsin Summer Scholarship

Amount: 11 Awards from $200-$1,000
The BloodCenter of Wisconsin Summer Scholarship is available to full-time college students, and high school students who are scheduled to graduate at the end of the 2015-2016 school year or have graduated at the end of the 2014-2015 school year.
To enter, you must meet the minimum criteria to donate blood and make a blood donation.
Your name will be entered into a scholarship drawing for each blood donation made in your name.
