ESA Foundation Scholarship Program


Deadline: 4/01/16

Available to: College Freshmen through Graduate Students, Year 5

Award Amount: 30 Awards of $3,000

Provided by the Entertainment Software Association (ESA), the ESA Foundation Scholarship Program is open to minority and female high school seniors and undergraduate students.

You must be majoring in a field that will lead to a career in computer and video game arts to qualify for this award.

Imagine Cup Games Competition


Deadline: 4/23/16

Available to: College Freshmen through Graduate Students, Year 5

Award Amount: $50,000

Sponsored by Games for Change, the Imagine Cup Games Competition is available to students with an interest in video game design.

To enter the contest you, or your team, must submit a desktop or tablet game using Windows, or a mobile game using Windows Phone, or a browser game using Windows Azure.

Games can support multiple languages as long as English is represented and be no bigger than 500MB to be eligible entries.

Online Games Scholarship


Deadline: 5/31/16

Available to: High School Seniors through College Seniors

Award Amount: $2,500

Sponsored by Big Fish Games, Inc., the Online Games Scholarship is open to college-bound high school seniors and currently enrolled university students.

You must submit an essay of at least 500 words on the topic "Can a video game elicit an emotional response? What makes a game affect you on an emotional level?"

Play! Pokemon Scholarship Program


Deadline: Varies

Available to: High School Freshmen through Graduate Students, Year 5

Award Amount: $1,000

Sponsored by the Pokemon Company International, the Play! Pokemon Scholarship Program is open to students who are the top finishers at the Pokemon Trading Card Game U.S. National Championships and the Pokemon World Championships.

Regional Championships are held in the summer of 2016 with the World Championships being held in August 2016.

Scholarships are available until your 28th birthday or ten years from the date the scholarship is granted.

Electronic Arts/William J. Byron Endowed Fund for Student Support

The Electronic Arts/William J. Byron Endowed Fund for Student Support is open to students from diverse ethnic and gender backgrounds attending the University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts.

You must be enrolled in interactive media with an emphasis in games to be eligible for this award.

The Integrated Project Solutions Scholarship is available to undergraduate and graduate students at Savannah College of Art and Design.

You must be majoring in animation, broadcast design and motion graphics, interactive design and game development, sound design or visual effects.

To be eligible, you must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and have completed at least 45 credits.

Internships for Gamers

Games Developer Intern


Deadline: Varies

Available to: College Juniors through Graduate Students, Year 5

The Turner Broadcasting System, Inc. Games Developer Intern is available to currently enrolled in a four-year college or university in a Computer Science-related field.

You must have completed their sophomore year in college prior to the start of the internship, be an interest in video games and Adult Swim content.

2+ years HTML experience, including experience with CSS, HTML, Javascript, as well as some proficiency with Photoshop to be considered for this position.

Familiarity with Unity 3D and mobile development is a plus but not strictly required.

As an intern, you will be responsible for performing daily maintenance tasks on the site, as well as supporting Adult Swim Games.

Microsoft Technical Internship

Available to: College Juniors through Graduate Students, Year 5

The Microsoft Technical Internships are available to undergraduate and graduate students.

Positions are available in software development, hardware engineering, user experience, IT and operations, game design, and content publishing.

Provided by The Strong National Museum of Play, the Collections Internship is available to undergraduate and graduate students who are interested in history and museums.

This internship is extremely research and writing intensive.

Interns will spend the majority of their time writing brief essays on the history and impact of various electronic games and related materials, which will be displayed on the museum's website.
