Military service members don’t need a reason to be celebrated – their service to America is an exceptional act of selfless, heroic bravery and deserves to be revered as such.

This does not only includes service members, but their spouses and family members as well, who make unimaginable sacrifices so that their loved ones can keep our country safe and protect the freedoms we hold dear.

As thanks to all of these heroes - for those who serve within the military or are affiliated with military service members - both your country and scholarship providers are willing to provide funding for your educational goals.

There are endless opportunities for awaiting active duty men and women, those honorably discharged, military veterans, as well as spouses and children of military service members.

These scholarships exist to help fund your educational goals, whether you’re looking to pursue a more civilian route or looking to gain more education and continue to pursue your military experience, ultimately moving up in the ranks.

Whether you are currently serving or previously served, there are military scholarship opportunities to assist in funding your education.

Women in the Trades Scholarship


Deadline: 9/30/15

Available to: College Freshman to College Senior

Award Amount: 6 Awards of $1,500

The Women in the Trades Scholarship is available to female students who are over the age of 18.

You must be actively pursuing a degree in a trade field in order to qualify for this award.

Preference is given to women who are affiliated with the military.

Hope For The Warriors Spouse/Caregiver Scholarship


Deadline: 10/16/15

Available to: College Freshman through Graduate Students, Year 2

Award Amount: Varies

The Hope For The Warriors Spouse / Caregiver Scholarship is available to the legal spouses and caregivers of U.S. military service members who were wounded / injured or killed while serving in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and / or Operation Iraqi Freedom.

To be considered, you must submit a maximum 1,500-word essay on the following topic: "What are some of the challenges you have experienced as a spouse / caregiver and have overcome? What have you learned about yourself through the spouse / caregiver experience? What are some of your future goals, and how would this scholarship impact those goals?"

Veterans United Foundation Scholarship


Deadline: 10/31/15

Available to: College Freshman through College Seniors

Award Amount: 20 awards of $2,000

The Veterans United Foundation Scholarship is open to current and prospective ROTC program students, active-duty military personnel who plan to attend college, honorably discharged veterans of the United States military, and sons, daughters and spouses of veterans or Active-duty military.

To qualify for this award, you must submit an essay of at least 500 words on one of the topics listed on the sponsor's website.

GIA Scholarship Fund for U.S. Veterans


Deadline: 10/31/15

Available to: College Freshman through Graduate Students, Year 5

Award Amount: $1,500

The GIA Scholarship Fund for U.S. Veterans is available to students enrolled at the Gemological Institute of America.

You must be enrolled in the eLearning Accredited Jewelry Professional (AJP) diploma program and be a U.S. military veteran to qualify for this award.

Military Service Members and Spouses Scholarship


Deadline: 10/31/15

Available to: College Freshman through Graduate Students, Year 5

Award Amount: $2,000

The Military Service Members and Spouses Scholarship is available to students attending an accredited college or university.

You must be a military service member or be a dependent of those who are active duty or veterans of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, or National Guard to be eligible for this award.

Additionally, you must submit an 800-1,000 word essay and/or video on how you plan to use your education to benefit your family and/or community.

Sport Clips Help a Hero Scholarship


Deadline: 11/15/15

Available to: College Freshman through College Seniors

Award Amount: $5,000

The Sport Clips Help a Hero Scholarship is open to U.S. citizens who are retired, on active duty, have been honorably discharged or are members of the National Guard or Reserve.

You must have completed Basic Training and follow-on training, hold a military rank of E-5 or below and demonstrate financial need in order to be considered for this award.

Air Force ROTC Scholarship


Deadline: 12/01/15

Available to: College Freshman through College Sophomores

Award Amount: Varies

The Air Force ROTC Scholarships are open to graduating high school seniors planning to enroll full- time at a college or university.

You must have a minimum GPA of 3.0, have a minimum 26 ACT or 1180 SAT score, be 17 years old prior to scholarship activation and be under 31 years old as of December 31 of the year you will be commissioned to be eligible for this award.

The Applicant Fitness Test (AFT) must be completed before becoming eligible for the AFROTC scholarship interview.

Imagine America Military Award Program


Deadline: 6/30/16

Available to: College Freshman through College Seniors

Award Amount: $1,000

The Imagine America Military Award Program is open to military personnel who wish to pursue and/or are continuing to pursue post-secondary career education at specific colleges or trade schools.

This award is available to any active duty and honorably discharged or retired veteran of a United States military service branch.

In order to apply, you must also meet the college or trade school's standard admissions requirements for your requested program of study.

Freedom Alliance Scholarship


Deadline: Varies

Available to: College Freshman through College Seniors

Award Amount: Varies

The Freedom Alliance Scholarship Fund provides financial assistance to the dependent children of U.S. military personnel who have been killed or permanently disabled as a result of an operational mission or training accident, or a U.S. military personnel who is classified as a prisoner of war (POW) or missing in action (MIA).

You must also maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA and be enrolled full time to remain on scholarship and to be eligible to renew your scholarship.

Olmsted Scholar Program


Deadline: Varies

Available to: Graduate Students, Year 1 through Year 5

Award Amount: Varies

The Olmsted Scholar Program is available to career line officers from the four branches of the U.S. military.

You must intend to study a foreign language full time at the graduate level in a foreign country to qualify for this award.

Selection for this award will be based on demonstrated scholastic ability and language aptitude, qualities of leadership, personal attributes and strong professional performance.

You must have an undergraduate college GPA of at least 3.0, GRE scores better than 500 in all categories and a Defense Language Aptitude Battery test score above 100.

You must be nominated by your military service to be considered.

Seth Bonder Scholarship for Applied Operations Research


Deadline: Varies

Available to: Graduate Students, Year 3 through Year 5

Award Amount: Varies from $4,000 - $5,000

The Seth Bonder Scholarship for Applied Operations Research is available to doctoral students in military operations research or a related discipline.

You must be interested in interchange of military or research knowledge in conjunction with INFORMS.

War Orphans Tuition Assistance


Deadline: Varies

Available to: Ages 16-21

Award Amount: $500

The War Orphans Tuition Assistance is open to children of those service personnel who died while in the military or due to service-connected disabilities, or who are officially listed as missing in action by the U.S. Department of Defense.

To qualify, the child must be a resident of New Jersey for at least one year immediately preceding the filing of the application and be between the ages of 16 and 21 at the time of application.

The veteran must have been a state resident.

Liberty Grant


Deadline: Varies

Available to: College Freshman through College Seniors

Award Amount: $2,500

The Liberty Grant is available to first-time students, re-entering students or students who have reenrolled at IADT Chicago.

You must be an active duty, veteran, reserve, or National Guard military personnel serving in the U.S. Armed Services, and their immediate family members to be eligible for this grant.

Nebraska Waiver of Tuition for Veterans’ Dependents

Available to: College Freshman through College Seniors

Award Amount: Varies

The Nebraska Waiver of Tuition for Veterans' Dependents is open to any eligible child, spouse, widow or widower attending the University of Nebraska, the state colleges, and community colleges. You must be a resident of Nebraska.

In addition, you must have a parent, stepparent or spouse who was a member of the armed forces of the United States and who: (1) Died of a service connected disability; (2) Died subsequent to discharge as a result of injury or illness sustained while in service; (3) Is permanently and totally disabled as a result of military service; (4) Is classified as missing in action or as a prisoner of war during armed hostilities after August 4, 1964.

The waiver shall be valid for one degree, diploma, or certificate from a community college and one baccalaureate degree.

Applications are submitted to the Department of Veterans' Affairs by contacting the County Veterans Service Officer nearest the applicants place of residence.

Jennifer Corbett Memorial Scholarship

The Jennifer Corbett Memorial Scholarship is open to students at the University of Rhode Island.

You must be a child of a firefighter, police person or enlisted military personnel to be eligible for this award.
