Big Bang Theory for Your Buck: TV’s First Scholarship

The creators, cast and crew of Big Bang Theory are making TV and education history by announcing the first ever TV-inspired scholarship. Now, it doesn’t take a genius to know that this is…well, genius.

The Big Bang Theory Scholarship is available to students pursuing degrees in science, technology, engineering and math at UCLA, according to ABC News. Currently, the scholarship endowment stands at $4 million, but that figure is sure to increase considering the generous backing behind the fund.

Initiated by the Chuck Lorre Family Foundation, the scholarship boasts supporters like the show’s stars, Jim Parsons, Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting, Johnny Galecki, Simon Helberg, Kunal Nayyar, Mayim Bialik and Melissa Rauch.

Each year 20 students will be selected, and the 2015 – 2016 academic school year marks the inaugural year of the scholarship endowment. Every year after, the scholarship will be awarded to five additional scholars. This year’s recipients will be announced this fall on the set of the show, as stated by ABC News.

Only students who plan to attend UCLA and study in one of the STEM fields are eligible to apply. Details for prospective applicants will be available soon.
