Scholarships for Graduating High School Seniors - Entering College Freshmen

You’re about to head off to college. What could be better than heading off to college minus the worries of paying for school?
Here’s a list of scholarships specifically for those graduating from high school, about to enter college.

Go ahead; apply for a chance to enter college with a little tuition help from these scholarship providers:

LGMD Awareness Scholarships


Deadline: 5/25/16

Available to: Ages 17-30

Award Amount: 4 Awards of $3,000

Provided by the Jain Foundation, the LGMD Awareness Scholarships reward students for teaching others about Limb Girdle Muscular Dystrophies, often referred to as LGMDs.

There are two scholarship categories, merit-based and social media based.

A total of four $3000 scholarships will be awarded in 2016. The scholarship money can be used for tuition, books, and equipment required for education courses.

Students may apply for both scholarship categories but students will be awarded at most one scholarship.

Duck Tape “Stuck at Prom” Contest


Deadline: 5/31/16

Available to: Ages 14-18

Award Amount: $10,000

The Duck Tape "Stuck at Prom" Contest is open to students age 14 years or older who are attending a high school prom in the spring of 2015. You must be a legal resident of the United States or Canada, including the District of Columbia, but excluding Puerto Rico and the Province of Quebec.

You must enter as a couple (two individuals) and attend a high school prom wearing complete attire and/ or accessories made from duct tape. Each couple must submit a high resolution color photograph of the two of you together in prom attire.

The awards for this contest range from a first place prize of a $10,000, a 2nd place prize of $5,000, a third place prize of $3,000, and $500 to the runners up. The schools that host the proms of winning couples will also receive a cash prize.

$5,000 Easy Scholarship: Caption a Pet Pic to Protect Animals from Secondhand Smoke


Deadline: 5/31/16

Available to: Maximum Age 25 Years

Award Amount: $5,000

You could win an easy $5,000 scholarship just by taking a pic of an animal and giving it a caption to show how secondhand smoke affects pets’ health! By captioning a cute pic (“Smoke makes life RUFF for dogs!”) you can be part of the movement to finish smoking for good. By participating, you’ll also automatically enter to win a $5,000 scholarship. Purrfect!

Online Games Scholarship


Deadline: 5/31/16

Available to: High School Seniors through College Seniors

Award Amount: $2,500

The Online Games Scholarship is open to college-bound high school seniors and currently enrolled university students. You must submit an essay of at least 500 words on the topic "Can a video game elicit an emotional response? What makes a game affect you on an emotional level?"

Rover College Scholarship


Deadline: 5/31/16

Available to: High School Seniors through College Juniors

Award Amount: $1,000

The Rover College Scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors and current college freshman, sophomores and juniors. You must submit an essay of between 400 and 500 words that answers the question: "Sharing economy companies like Uber, Lyft, Airbnb, and Rover have seen a big rise in popularity over the last few years. How do you think the sharing economy will change in the next 5 years? What impacts do you think it will have on the lives of college students, both in big cities and small towns?"

Athnet Sports Recruiting Scholarship


Deadline: 6/01/16

Available to: High School Senior through College Seniors

Award Amount: $1,000

The Athnet Sports Recruiting Scholarship is open to high school seniors entering college and current college students.

You must be a current or former athlete at either the high school or college level and submit an essay of 400 to 500 words describing how the lessons you have learned through playing sports have positively impacted you as you pursue your college education in order to qualify for this award.

Because College is Expensive Scholarship


Deadline: 6/30/16

Available to: High School Freshmen through Graduate Student, Year 5

Award Amount: $500

The $500 “Because College is Expensive” Scholarship is open to all students (seniors in high school, current undergrads and grad students) and those planning on enrolling within 12 months. The winner will be determined by random drawing and then contacted directly and announced on the Scholarship Winners page. One entry per person is all that is necessary.

Andrew Flusche Scholarship Contest


Deadline: 6/30/16

Available to: High School Seniors through Graduate Student, Year 5

Award Amount: $500

The Andrew Flusche Scholarship Contest is available to high school seniors and students currently enrolled in a college or university. You must create a public service advertisement video (PSA) which raises awareness of the severity of the consequences of drunk driving among your peers to qualify for this award. The video must be uploaded to YouTube and be no longer than three minutes long.

$3,000 Easy Scholarship: Make a Playlist to Take Shorter Showers


Deadline: 6/30/16

Available to: High School Freshmen through Graduate Student, Year 5

Award Amount: $3,000

You could win an easy $3,000 scholarship just by making a five-minute playlist to remind friends to take shorter showers! Send your playlist to someone you know so they can keep their shower under 5 minutes. That’ll save up to 1,500 gallons of water and automatically enter to win a $3,000 scholarship. Win-win!

The CollegeSTEPS Sweepstakes is open to high school and college students. To enter, you must enroll in the Wells Fargo CollegeSTEPS educational resource program.
