For most interns, an internship is unpaid and involves a whole lot of busy work, coffee fetching and various other errands.
However, if you are lucky enough to snag an internship at one of the following companies, the benefits are boundless and the pay is, well, better than the average person’s full-time gig.
The rankings are based on the Glassdoor data revealing 2014’s highest paid internships – some earning more than $7,000 a month average base pay!
If you’re hoping to obtain high internship pay, we recommend getting into tech-related fields, as the majority of the top paying companies are in the technology sector. The second highest paying field was oil, gas, energy and utilities.
But, according to Glassdoor, pay isn’t everything. Interns surveyed by the company reported that when deciding where to work there are other important factors to consider.
The most important factors included: career growth (77%), salary and compensation (74%), location and commute (41%) and the company’s culture and values (41%).

10. Apple
Average Monthly Base Pay: $5,723
Located in Cupertino, CA, Apple interns receive other benefits than pay, including product discounts, monthly social gatherings, an on-site cafe and free (what else?) apples!
9. Google
Average Monthly Base Pay: $5,969
The search engine, located in Menlo Park, CA offers tons of company perks including use of their nap pods, free haircuts, gourmet meals, massages and on-site doctors.
8. ExxonMobil
Average Monthly Base Pay: $5,972
The Irving, TX-based oil and gas corporation, also offers access to a clubhouse with free drinks and tons of social gatherings.
7. eBay, Inc.
Average Monthly Base Pay: $6,126
The online auction site is headquartered in San Jose, CA. Company perks include rooftop parties, an office arcade and Wednesday bagels.
6. Microsoft
Average Monthly Base Pay: $6,138
The tech company, located in Redmond, Washington, gives interns the opportunity to attend expert seminars, get discounts at local businesses and on-site oil changes.
5. Facebook
Average Monthly Base Pay: $6,213
Based in Menlo Park, CA, the social media company also supplies interns with three free meals daily, use of the onsite barber and hoodies, galore!
4. LinkedIn
Average Monthly Base Pay: $6,230
The career social networking site is located in Mountain View, CA. In addition to high paying internships, the company has a popular live speaker series and free yoga classes.
3. Twitter
Average Monthly Base Pay: $6,791
Headquartered in San Francisco, CA, the social media platform also has company perks like an office gym, a rooftop work area and celebrity sightings galore.
2. VM Ware
Average Monthly Base Pay: $6,996
VM Ware, a software and services company, is headquartered in Palo Alto, CA. Interns receive benefits other than high pay, like use of the company’s relaxation rooms, dry cleaning services and free snacks.
1. Palantir
Average Monthly Base Pay: $7,012
In addition to offering their interns the highest pay on this list, Palantir also offers interns a complimentary bike/helmet and three daily meals (prepared by a chef). The computer software and data analysis company is headquartered in Palo Alto, CA.
