Fun in the sun. Being outside with friends. The 4th of July, swimming at the lake and eating more ice cream than you ever thought imaginable.

These are just some of the many summer activities people enjoy – and get scholarships for, too. So, why shouldn't you?

Below is a list of summer-themed scholarships for you to peruse and apply for at your leisure (any other way would go against the rules of summertime) – just don’t miss the deadlines!

Donna Foss Independence Day Essay Scholarship Contest

Deadline: 7/05/15

Available to: High School Freshman through High School Senior

Award Amount: $5,000

The Donna Foss Independence Day Essay Scholarship Contest is available to U.S. citizen high school students.

You must write a 1500 word minimum essay on the theme "Happy Birthday America" to be eligible for this award.

Three winners will receive $5,000, $2,500, and $1,000 scholarships to the accredited U.S. college or university of their choices.

The SweatBlock “Social Confidence” Scholarship

Deadline: 7/15/15

Available to: College Freshman through College Seniors

Award Amount: $2,000

The SweatBlock “Social Confidence” Scholarship available to any students of any degree seeking category.

You must be a US citizen, submit an essay between 500 and 1,000 words long and must fully answer one of the following questions to be eligible for this award.

Essay Topics to Choose From:

1. How might excessive perspiration influence one’s perception of self? Or, how might viewing someone else’s excessive perspiration influence your perception of them?

2. Explore the connection between social anxiety and excessive perspiration.

3. When is sweat “good / acceptable / attractive” and when is sweat is sweat “bad / unacceptable / unattractive”?

American Legion Baseball Scholarship

Deadline: 7/15/15

Available to: College Freshman

Award Amount: $500

The American Legion Baseball Scholarship is available to students who have graduated from high school. You must be on a 2014 roster of a team affiliated with an American Legion Post in order to qualify for this award.

North Carolina Amateur Sports Scholarship

Deadline: 7/16/15

Available to: College Freshman through College Senior

Award Amount: Varies

The North Carolina Amateur Sports Scholarship is available to high school seniors and current college students who are participating in the Powerade State Games of North Carolina.

You must have a minimum 3.5 GPA to qualify for this award.

Additionally, you must have excelled academically and athletically, and be active in community service.

Imagine Cup Games Competition

Deadline: 7/31/15

Available to: College Freshman through Graduate Students, Year 5

Award Amount: $50,000

The Imagine Cup Games Competition is available to students with an interest in video game design.

To enter the contest you, or your team, must submit a desktop or tablet game using Windows, or a mobile game using Windows Phone, or a browser game using Windows Azure.

Games can support multiple languages as long as English is represented and be no bigger than 500MB to be eligible entries.

"From Failure to Promise" Essay Contest

Deadline: 7/31/15

Available to: High School Senior through Graduate Students, Year 5

Award Amount: $10,000

The "From Failure to Promise" Essay Contest is open to high school seniors, undergraduate, and graduate students who hold at least a 2.5 GPA.

To be considered, you must submit an essay of at least 1500 words that addresses the following three topics: Which tracks of the book "From Failure to Promise - 360 degrees" presented or reiterated the most important life lessons for you and why, which factor was the most vital to the author's evolution in going from "flunk-out" to "professor and how does the "Seven Spheres of Influence and Integration Model" affect your worldview as related to civic responsibility.

Storage.com Scholarship Contest

Deadline: 8/01/15

Available to: High School Seniors through College Seniors

Award Amount: $2,500

The Storage.com Scholarship Contest is open to current undergraduate students and soon-to-be freshmen students.

You must submit an essay of between 250 and 500 words that describes what experiences, lessons, and opportunities you hope to pack into your years in school.

A short video of no more than 15 seconds may be submitted via Instagram or YouTube detailing what you are looking forward to most in college.

National Ice Cream Retailers Association
Bryce Thomson Scholarship Award

Deadline: 8/28/15

Available to: High School Senior through College Junior

Award Amount: $3,500

Provided by the National Ice Cream Retailers Association (NICRA), the Bryce Thomson Scholarship Award is available to high school seniors and college freshman, sophomores and juniors.

You must be employed by an active NICRA member in good standing and demonstrate academic excellence and financial need in order to be considered for this award.

Don’t Text and Drive Scholarship

Available to: High School Freshman through Graduate Students, Year 5

Award Amount: $1,500

Provided by Digital Responsibility, the Don't Text and Drive Scholarship is available to high school, undergraduate or graduate students.

You must be U.S. citizen or legal resident and complete a short statement on why you pledge not to text and drive in order to qualify for this award.

SAFE Scholarship

Deadline: 10/15/15

Available to: College Freshman through Graduate Student, 5th Year

Award Amount: $1,000

The SAFE Scholarship is available to students who are pursuing a career in the sports turf industry.

Selection for this award will be based on academic preparation, cumulative grade point average, experience in sports turf management, and references.

Membership in the Sports Turf Managers Association is also required.

Patriot’s Pen Competition

Available to: Maximum Age 14 Years

Award Amount: $5,000

Sponsored by Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States, the Patriot's Pen Competition is open to students in grades six through eight.

To enter, you must submit a 300 - to 400 - word essay on the following theme: "Why I appreciate America's Veterans."

Apprentice Ecologist Initiative Scholarship

Available to: Maximum Age 21 Years

The Apprentice Ecologist Initiative Scholarship is available to students between the ages of 13 and 21 who are interested in protecting wildlife and the environment.

To be considered, you must conduct your own environmental stewardship project in 2015, take digital photos of your project in action, and write an essay about your project and what it meant to you.

Undergraduate Engineering Scholarship

The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers Undergraduate Engineering Scholarship is available to undergraduate students who are enrolled in an ABET-accredited program leading to a Bachelor of Science or a Bachelor of Engineering Science degree.

Your course of study must be related to heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration. A minimum 3.0 GPA is required.

However, in this one instance, mosquitoes can bring joy because the American Mosquito Control Association (AMCA) offers scholarships to students researching related fields.

Wholesale Fireworks Scholarships

For sixteen years and counting, Wholesale Fireworks has awarded Ohio high school and college students annual scholarships.

Scholarship applications are accepted from January 10 through March 31, so this year’s deadline has passed but we had to include fireworks within our summer scholarships.

State Fair of Texas Scholarships

Over the past 22 years, the State Fair of Texas Scholarship Program has awarded a total of over $3.7 million dollars to 1,379 students!

Emerging Leaders Scholarship

If you don’t love the idea of some serious waterpark fun – this opportunity is not for you.

Rather than a monetary Emerging Leaders Scholarship, this award consists of a travel package to the World Waterpark Association (WWA) show.
