Back to School Sales Tax Holiday: When to Shop in Your State

Back to School is upon us, and the frenzy that surrounds preparing and shopping for school supplies, clothes and electronics has inspired a holiday shopping season of sorts. Forbes reports that the National Retail Federation estimates that back to school spending will reach $24.9 billion this year, with each family spending an average of $630.36 on apparel, shoes, supplies and electronics.

Retailers and lawmakers alike have begun working together to motivate consumers to spend more money during the weeks leading up to back to school through tax free shopping days in various states.

So far, a total of 18 states as well as Puerto Rico will be participating in some sort of tax-free shopping for back to school, according to CNBC. States that plan to participate are as follows:

• Alabama: August 7 – 9

• Arkansas: August 1 – 2

• Connecticut: August 16 – 22

• Florida: August 7 – 16

• Georgia: July 31 – August 1

• Iowa: August 7 – 8

• Louisiana: August 7 – 8

• Maryland: August 9 – 15

• Massachusetts – TBD

• Mississippi: July 31 – August 1

• Missouri: August 7 – 9

• New Mexico: August 7 – 9

• Ohio: August 7 – 9

• Oklahoma: August 7 – 9

• South Carolina: August 7 – 9

• Texas: August 7 – 9

• Tennessee: August 7 – 9

• Virginia: August 7 – 9
